Community Health Fellowship

The Community Health Fellowship is a two year full time programme, which provides young development professionals a strong back ground in the field of community health. The programme nurtures, grooms and educates the fellows in the states of Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa towards enhancing and strengthening of community processes in the NRHM in the districts and grass roots level. The fellowship programme imparts multi-disciplinary knowledge to the young professionals that is relevant to the context through a learning process that has action and reflection inbuilt into it. The focus is on creating community health professionals with high motivation and technical competencies to work with people, civil societies and the state to further the ideals of ‘Health for All’.

The fellows supported through this programme would be placed in districts and linked to both District Health Societies and local civil society groups. The fellows would also be provided an induction programme and a strong and continuous mentoring support from a network of resource individuals and organisations from across the country. Each fellow would be linked to both one academic mentor and one field level mentor. The state based PHRN Network and Office will provide overall support including logistical support. The specific role of the fellow involves a pre-defined two year project that will improve the effectiveness of community processes – ASHA, Village Health & Sanitation Committees, Rogi Kalyan Samitis - & district health programming within the NRHM framework through a mix of action and research.  It will involve supporting field interventions as well as district level policy planning.

The Fellowship programme is a civil society initiative in partnership with the National Health Systems Resource Centre, the apex technical support institution for the NRHM; SEARCH, a pioneering NGO; and the ICICI Centre for Child Health and Nutrition, a funding and research group.
