PHRN – IGNOU Collaboration

PHRN and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) have signed a MoU to conduct a Post Graduate Diploma Course in District Health Management. This one year course is slated to be launched  from July 2009. The course is intended to strengthen the public health services in general, and the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in particular. Both medical and non-medical graduates with two years experience in the health sector will be eligible for the course. The course will be conducted in distance education mode. There will be three spells of contact sessions.

The programme will cover all north-eastern states, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana. Emphasis for the course will be on field based learning and understanding the public health system, national disease control programmes, women and child health, district health management, health sector reforms, issues in governance of health service systems and a choice of several elective papers. Because of its broad based content, the course will be of relevance to those aspiring to make a career in public health.
